Viva Magenta is the color of 2023
On the threshold of the new year, we look ahead with optimism and confidence, with which the color of 2023 - Viva Magenta 18-1750 is imbued. As every year, the color of the American Institute Pantone was determined after a long and thoughtful process that took into account trends in the world of design, culture, fashion, art, new technologies, as well as all socio-economic and political factors that influence the life of people from around the world.
Viva Magenta is a bold and vibrant color whose abundance encourages us to celebrate life with joy and optimism. This warm shade is rooted in nature, originating from the red tone family, encouraging strength and a new beginning. It is inspired by cochineal red, which is among the most ancient and valuable natural pigments, known for its rich and persistent color. To emphasize Viva Magenta's connection to nature and the ancient insect-derived dye, this year Pantone included a small beetle in its promotional materials.
"Viva Magenta is the embodiment of a return to nature and survival, but at the same time a look to the future with the Magentaverse, which is an unexpected and exciting universe. We don't even know what will come of this unleashed creativity, but the color shows the true connection with nature, how it continues through the ages and how it carries all that into the future," says Pantone Color Institute Executive Director, Leatrice Eiseman.
The color of 2023 is dynamic and electrifying, encouraging uninhibited self-expression. It welcomes anyone with a zest for life and a rebellious spirit. It is a color that is bold, bursting with creativity and embodies practically everything.
"The need for calm is indisputable, after the events of the last three years, but we also need energy to move forward boldly. Viva Magenta is a hybrid shade combining warmth and cool that portrays the physical and the virtual in our multidimensional world, energizing us to balance what has happened with what we aspire to in the future. Drawing on the forces of nature, this color stimulates the spirit, helping us build our inner strength," says Eiseman.
The pandemic has caused people to spend more time at home, to turn to creative pursuits, to look for a way to express themselves. The colors around us challenge us to think much more deeply and communicate much more fully. This is why the general public's interest in the power of colors has increased. People are increasingly investigating the psychological and emotional impact of color, looking for ways to improve their mood and well-being.
As the color of the coming year, Viva Magenta hits the spot with its dynamic charge, ability to stimulate transformation, creativity and anticipation of a more positive future.
