Parisians practice the art of living daily. Here are a few selected locations in the city where you can feel the passion for beauty in all its dimensions.
One of the must-visit places in the French capital if you love luxury in all its forms. The number one auction house in Paris attracts collectors from all over the world. Founded in 2002, it has enjoyed international recognition and loyal clients ever since. Sales mainly take place in the two branches of the auction house—in Paris and Monaco. The Parisian building also houses a very nice bookstore where you can find all sorts of magazines on fashion, cinema, and art.
Enclosed within the triangle in the 8th arrondissement of Paris, between the three famous boulevards—Avenue des Champs-Élysées, Avenue Montaigne, and Avenue George V—the Triangle D’Or, as it is known to the French, concentrates renowned galleries and fashion headquarters. On the streets of the Golden Triangle, you can often spot French stars from the worlds of music, cinema, and fashion, as the offices of famous fashion companies and film studios are located here. For many years, film star Marlene Dietrich lived on Avenue Montaigne, where the apartment of the famous sister of Jackie Kennedy-Onassis, Princess Lee Radziwill, was also located.
The former studio of fashion designer Azzedine Alaïa (1935–2017) has been transformed into an artistic foundation bearing his name, managed by his close friend Carla Sozzani. She is the elder sister of Franca Sozzani, the longtime editor-in-chief of Vogue Italia. This is a place for exhibitions and discussions focused on Alaïa's fashion. During his lifetime, he used the large hall of the atelier to host his famous dinners, which became true events, gathering leading figures from the world of fashion and art. To a large extent, Madame Sozzani has continued Alaïa's mission, and together with the former director of the Fashion Museum in Paris, Olivier Saillard, they have added exciting exhibitions, concerts, and meetings with famous names from the world of fashion to his legacy.
One of the few galleries specialized in craftsmanship (the intersection of design and contemporary art), called Carpenters Workshop, is located near the Alaïa Foundation. In addition to its Paris branch, the gallery, established in 2006, has offices in London and New York. The Paris branch sells the most and prides itself on its achievements.
