"I know that there are new products almost every day, but if I hadn’t seen a real difference in my skin, I wouldn’t have gotten involved in this," says American actor Brad Pitt about his unisex skincare line. Unique Estates Life Global View attended the brand's launch in Madrid.
The luxurious unisex skincare line Le Domaine was born from a collaboration between the Perrin family, heirs to one of the most significant family sagas in the world of wine with their Château de Beaucastel winery, and Brad Pitt, owner of the neighboring Château Miraval in the French Provence. In 2014, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie got married at the former Perrin family residence, one of the top 100 rosé wineries on the planet. After their separation in 2016, the two have been battling for the estate, with Brad Pitt currently holding the upper hand.
Marc Perrin recalls that his family's friendship with Brad Pitt began immediately after they met. They were united by a shared desire "to preserve the Earth's riches and its ecosystem for future generations." In September 2022, they launched Le Domaine, a sustainable skincare line that merges science and nature under the motto "From Wine to Skin." The products are unisex, vegan, with a minimum of 96% naturally-derived ingredients, and are suitable for all skin types.
Le Domaine is based on research conducted over more than two decades by two prominent scientists—Dr. Pierre-Louis Teissedre and Dr. Nicolas Lévy. Dr. Lévy, a renowned researcher in rare diseases and molecular genetics in Marseille, is a world reference in the field of progeria research. Progeria is the rare disease that causes extremely rapid aging, the condition from which Brad Pitt’s character suffers in the movie The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. Dr. Lévy spent many years researching to discover a powerful active ingredient for skincare that reduces cellular aging. His discovery is patented as ProGR3®: a combination of resveratrol derived from vine tendrils, apigenin from chamomile extract, and catechins from green tea.
On the other hand, Dr. Teissedre, a winemaker, viticulturist, and health expert, developed GSM10®, a previously unknown active ingredient with strong antioxidant properties that combats cellular oxidation and the MMP enzymes that contribute to collagen breakdown. The compound is derived from organic grape pomace containing the seeds of the Grenache, Syrah, and Mourvèdre grapes. Le Domaine’s products also contain a selection of ingredients drawn from science and nature, chosen for their effectiveness. These include stem cells from two types of grapevine flowers, hyaluronic acids of different molecular weights, niacinamide, shea butter, and the Ayurvedic plant Andrographis paniculata.
"We believe that skin is a valuable asset that needs care. Le Domaine products are suitable for all ages because they reduce the effect of progerin, which causes skin aging. When we try to 'fight against aging,' we act as if aging is a disease, when in fact it is a natural process. For me, the goal is not to create an elixir of youth. The idea is to stay healthy as we age and to minimize the harmful effects of aging. That's why we don’t talk about anti-aging but about reducing the visible effects of aging," said Dr. Nicolas Lévy at the launch of Le Domaine in Madrid. The line includes L'Emulsion Nettoyante (cleansing emulsion), Le Sérum (active serum), La Crème (cream), and La Crème Fluide (fluid cream).
"Our approach is unusual in the cosmetics industry, as it combines instrumental tests and clinical in vivo trials on a large group of consumers, and these extremely rigorous testing methods are not often applied," Dr. Lévy added at the presentation. Among the proven benefits for the skin, as confirmed by efficacy tests, are hydration, beautification, firmness, elasticity, and strength.
