Fans of LA’s MOCA, Basel’s Fondation Beyeler or Greece’s Deste Foundation now have a new way to show their support, thanks to artist Maurizio Cattelan. Launched in December 2017, in collaboration with Italian design brand Seletti, his Museums League collection features a series of scarves dedicated to the world’s most iconic art institutions. Mimicking the design of traditional football scarves, the artist also created a ‘museum chant’ for each institution, woven on the scarves’ reverse.
Museums League is the first in a series of new concepts by Cattelan and Seletti that are designed to make art more accessible. Says Cattelan, ‘Stefano Seletti and I agree on a motto – “Everyone can be a collector”, which is a nod to Joseph Beuys’ quote, “Everyone is an artist”’. The scarves, which will be sold at their respective museums, also mark the debut of Cattelan and Seletti’s new venture, entitled Made in Catteland, which hopes to ‘redesign the shape of museum shops’, elevating their wares to align them with the art displayed inside.
