Unique Estates Supports the National Autumn Exhibitions – Plovdiv 2026

Culture is an essential part of the environment we create and choose to live in. That is why Unique Estates | Christie's International Real Estate is pleased to support the National Autumn Exhibitions – Plovdiv 2026, which this year present the curatorial project “Mirrors of the City.”

On September 1, one of the significant events in the city’s cultural calendar will open in Plovdiv’s Old Town. Curated by Genadi Gatev, the project brings together female artists from different generations and with diverse artistic practices, offering a perspective on Plovdiv beyond its familiar historical image – as a living space of memory, personal stories and human experiences.

“Mirrors of the City” – Plovdiv Through Different Perspectives

The exhibition features works by Elisaveta Konsulova-Vazova, Maria Dospevska and Bistra Vinarova, whose work is connected to important moments in the development of Bulgarian artistic culture and the changing place of women in the country’s artistic life.

They are joined by contemporary female artists working across different media – painting, photography, graphic art, sculpture, video and installation. Their works do not present the city simply as architecture or landscape. Instead, they explore the traces, memories, objects, absences and personal stories through which a place acquires its own meaning.

“Here, the city ceases to be a place and becomes a state of being, a way in which one inhabits the world. This idea lies at the heart of “Mirrors of the City.” A mirror does not simply show an image – it changes the perspective. In the same way, the exhibition does not offer a single, definitive portrait of Plovdiv, but multiple possible reflections of it – between history and personal experience, between what has been inherited and what is being created today", Genadi Gatev says.

Art in the Spaces of Plovdiv’s Old Town

The works will be presented in some of the Old Town’s emblematic spaces – Veren Stambolyan House, Balabanov House, Hindliyan House, the “Mexican Art” permanent exhibition of the City Art Gallery – Plovdiv, the “Encho Pironkov” permanent exhibition and the “Cherveno Pony” Gallery.

In this way, the city itself becomes part of the exhibition. Historic architecture, contemporary art and personal stories come together in a shared space where the past and present can be viewed from a new perspective.

An Evening Dedicated to Art

The official opening of the National Autumn Exhibitions will take place on September 1 at 6:00 PM at Atanas Krastov Square (Lapidarium) in Plovdiv’s Old Town.

The evening’s cultural programme will continue at the Ancient Theatre at 9:00 PM, with the official opening of the Plovdiv Autumn Arts Salon 2026 and the premiere of Deyan Donkov’s one-man show “Don Juan’s Last Escape”, based on a text by Nedyalko Slavov. In the performance, Don Juan travels through different times, places and stories, with Plovdiv once again becoming part of his journey. The performance is directed by Deyan Donkov, with original music by Asen Avramov and video design and 3D mapping by Maya Vselenska.
