Ivan Vazov quarter is the most prestigious south quarter - near the city centre but away from its noise!
LOCATION
Ivan Vazov is very close to the centre of the capital. It borders with Bulgaria Blvd. to the north, with Petko Todorov Blvd. to the west and with South Park to the south and east.
DESCRIPTION
The quarter impresses with its diverse architecture. There are single-family houses, solid monolithic blocks from 4 to 6 floors, 8-floor panel blocks, 10-floor brick blocks and high-rise EPK (shuttering large panel) buildings.
During the last decade private contractors have built many new blocks of flats in this prestigious quarter. The big residential buildings have been built in the last 30-35 years. This quarter was one of the "shop-window" of the capital and that's why the construction works made before the 90s are of high quality. There were very few residential complexes at that time, and the construction was primarily monolithic with commercial areas on the ground floor.
There are four schools in the quarter, two of them situated near Bulgaria Blvd. - the Specialized Technical School in Clothing and Textile on 2 Balsha Str. and 47th Sports School. The third school is the High School in Commerce and Banking located on 93 Vitosha Blvd. There is also a Private Art School with intensive foreign language teaching "Artis" located on 18 Dimitar Manov St.
14th Diagnostics and Consultancy Centre is on Stefan Sarafov St.
The quarter also has a sports complex Rakovski and sports complex Spartak - at 4 Arsenalski Blvd, whose base includes three swimming pools, 2 gyms, a shooting complex, a tennis court, kalanetics, aerobics, gym halls, massage saloons, restaurants and cafes.
The big market place Ivan Vazov is located between the quarters Ivan Vazov and Strelbishte at the last station of tram No. 1. There has been formed a trading. In immediate proximity to the market is the post office of the quarter.
There is a cultural club Petar Beron on 119 Vitisha Blvd.
The spaces between the blocks are well-kept and the parking places are enough. Here is also one of the biggest underground parking lots in Sofia.
The ground floors of almost all newly-built apartment houses are turned into stores and offices. Several office buildings have been built during the last few years along Bulgaria Blvd.
